Good Company Lit accepts submissions of fiction, essays, poetry and reflective writing throughout the year. We are interested in work that is deliberate in its craft and lasting in its effect—writing that invites attention, rewards re-reading, and remains with the reader beyond the final line.
We look for pieces that balance clarity with depth, restraint with emotional resonance. Whether narrative or reflective, the work should feel considered, purposeful, and attentive to language.
What We’re Looking For
We welcome submissions that:
- demonstrate strong control of language and form
- engage meaningfully with human experience
- reflect an awareness of diverse cultures, perspectives, and lived experiences
- celebrate difference with nuance, respect, and curiosity
- avoid reliance on excess, sensationalism, or provocation
- offer insight, subtlety, or emotional precision
Our editorial approach is shaped by an awareness of ethical and cultural sensibilities, including those of Muslim readers. This does not define the subject matter of the work, nor does it limit who may submit. We accept submissions from writers of all backgrounds and perspectives.
We do ask that submissions remain mindful of certain considerations. Work that includes explicit sexual content or blasphemous treatment of religion is unlikely to be accepted. Depictions of violence may be considered, provided they are thoughtfully handled, integral to the narrative, and not gratuitous.
Genres
We currently consider:
- Short fiction
- Essays (personal, literary, reflective)
- Poetry
- Hybrid or experimental prose (with a clear sense of purpose)
Guidelines
- Submit one piece at a time (For poetry, you may submit up to 3 poems in a single document, with each poem beginning on a new page.)
- Prose should generally not exceed 3,000 words
- Include a brief cover note with your submission
- Simultaneous submissions are allowed, but please notify us if your work is accepted elsewhere
Response Time
Due to the volume of submissions, response times may vary. We read each submission carefully and appreciate your patience.
A Note on Selection
Good Company Lit is intentionally selective. Not all strong writing aligns with our editorial vision, and we make decisions based on fit as much as quality. We aim to curate work that speaks to a shared sense of attentiveness, clarity, and purpose.
How to Submit
Please send your work to:
